Responsive computing required!

Hey all. Thanks for spelling me out the obvious by commenting on my previous post - using swap out of memory is useless.

But I still want my computer to be faster and swap less. I know that today's userspace apps suck and use much unnecessary computer resources, but all I want for my computer is to be responsive!

I remember in DOS days, with much slower computers I didn't have to wait for it. Computers perform tasks much faster that people, so I want to use this tool and I want it to be usable. I don't want to wait for it to do something it "thinks" it needs to. I want it to respond in half of a second to any of my actions.

Is that too much to ask for?
Is it possible to be easily done? Without the suggestion to buy more hardware? If so, how?

-A.

New things and planet update

So, Planet update first.

Dear planet citizens, I haven't received any more avatars!! That is definitely not good.

I'm starting to think put random pink rabbits or green kittens near you!! (Unless you're a girl, then I'll think about something more creative, such as sportcars or math formulas).

Please, all, what is it for you computer literates? Just take your favorite avatar, enclose it in upto 100x100 pixels picture and send it to me. My address is here (djay), and I'm putting your favorite image in minutes after I see it.

In addition I plead to all of you:
1. Please find a friend (or make one) or acquaintance, who uses Gentoo. If he/she does not use Gentoo, help them start with it.
2. Help this person with personal blog.
3. Direct them here !
Thanks.

Now, the other note - after I posted my comment to Diego's entry, I was surprised to get 3 times traffic to my blog! So, in this, thanks to Diego for exposure.

And third - I'm doing some interesting project now, which has everything to do with embedded linux. Its not Gentoo Embedded, but linux nevertheless.

I'll keep it posted here and all the progress I make will be recorded.

Have fun :-)
